2002 was the year the USA had their best finish on the world’s stage since finishing third in 1930. This was a turning point for the USMNT. No longer a team easily dismissed, the US men bested football giant Portugal and rivals Mexico before loosing to Germany 1-0 with a controversial denied penalty in the quarterfinals. Nevertheless, the team returned home from South Korea/Japan heroes.
 
With a similar color-block design as the home kit, Nike ditched the collar on the navy 2002 away jersey. The jersey had a clean design with the Cool Motion dual layer construction and white details.
